Helambu Trek

After breakfast, we take you to four major world UNESCO heritage sites for sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley. Visit the Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest of all Hindu temples. Situated 5 kilometers east of Kathmandu, the temple of Lord Shiva-Pashupatinath, with its two-tiered golden roof and silver doors, is famous for its superb architecture. We can see the temple, the activities performed on the temple premises, and the cremation bank of the Bagmati River. Apart from Hindus, no one is allowed to enter the main temple, but we take a short walk by the bank of the Bagmati River, where one can observe the pilgrims and Hindu priests activities around the premises. This River is also a cremation site for Hindus. From here, we take a short drive that leads to Bouddhanath, northeast of the Pashupatinath area. The Stupa of Bouddhanath is 8 kilometers east of Kathmandu. This colossal and ancient stupa is one of the biggest in the world. This area is also known as ‘Little Tibet. After a visit here to observe the Tibetan Buddhist way of life, our tour continues towards the Patan area, which is situated to the south of Kathmandu and separated by a bridge over the River Bagmati. Patan Durbar Square (Patan) is also known as Lalitpur, which means the city of Arts and architecture. The old historical castle (Durbar), the tall terracotta house, and the Stone Temple of Krishna with the pillar of Garuda look fascinating. Garuda is the vehicle of Lord Vishnu as well as of Lord Krishna. After the historic visit, we drive short distances towards the end of the Patan area at the Tibetan Refugee Camp, where one can observe the happy and cheery workers weaving carpets. The Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) has been in use since the 5th century and consists of a magnificent domed stupa as well as a variety of shrines and temples. Each temple is extremely ornate and richly decorated with gold and vibrant prayer flags, though it’s not only the spiritual décor that draws visitors. This sacred pilgrimage site is also home to hundreds of monkeys considered holy by Tibetan Buddhists and Hindus. According to legend, Manjushree, the bodhisattva of wisdom, was in the process of raising the temple hill when the lice in his hair transformed into these monkeys. After breakfast, we drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal (1400 m), 1 hour by car, then trek to Chisopani (2,250m). It is a 5-hour walk to our destination. We will be walking all through Shivapuri National Park, which is gradually uphill. After 1.5 hours of walking, we get to Mulkharka village. We stop here for lunch; the majority of inhabitants here are tamang, and then we continue walking 3 hours in an oak forest to get to Chispoani village, from where you can enjoy the best mountain views, including Annapurna, Manaslu, and the Langtang Himalayan range. After breakfast, we trek from Chisopani to Kutumsang (2,371m). It is a 7-hour walk to our destination. On a clear morning, you will have the best mountain view and sunrise from Chisopani. We walk down to Pati Bhanjyang, then ascend all the way to Golphu Bhanjyang via Chipling village through rocy edge. Today's walk passes through many different villages with lots of ups and downs. After continuous ascent, we reach Golphu Bhanjyang, and afterwards it takes another 2 hours to get to Kuttumsang. Overnight at the guesthouse BLD Guesthouse 2,371m

After breakfast, we trek from Kutumsang to Thadepati (3,600m). It is a 6-hour walk to our destination. Another day, we walk 1300m up until we reach Thadepati (3600 m), from where you can head towards the Helambu route and another way to Gosainkunda. The way is mostly through a forest of juniper, pine, and rhododendron. We reach Magin Goth after walking 4 hours uphill, where we stop for lunch. You get the mountain views of Dorje Lakhpa and Ganjenpo from here, then another 3 hours of gradual uphill to get to Thadepati. Overnight at the guesthouse BLD Guesthouse 3,600m

After breakfast, we trek from Thadepati to Tarke Ghyang (2,560m). It is a 6-hour walk to our destination. After 3 hours of downhill, we get to Melamchigaon. It is a beautiful Buddhist village, and you can see the Buddhist culture mix of Tamang and Sherpa "Hyolmo". We will then continue to Tarkeghyang (2,600 m), another 3 hours walk. We ascend towards Tarke Ghyang, passing through several Sherpa settlements and indulging in awe-inspiring views of the majestic Himalayan peaks. In Tarke Ghyang, you will have the opportunity to explore an ancient monastery, which happens to be one of the oldest and largest monasteries in the region. The village is more commonly referred to as Helambu, as most of its inhabitants belong to the Hyolmo caste. The route from Tarke Ghyang will lead you through dense forests alongside glistening streams and captivating waterfalls, providing breathtaking panoramas throughout your journey. As you continue trekking, you will encounter numerous small villages between Parachin and the Sherpa village of Gangyul. From Gangyul, your path continues until you reach the settlement of Sermanthang. This village boasts several Buddhist monasteries, adding to its serene beauty. You will spend the night at one of the cozy tea houses or lodges in Sermanthang. BLD Guesthouse 2,590m

After breakfast, today we trek from Sermathang to Melamchi bazaar (8,70m). It is a 5- to 6-hour walk, then a 3- to 4-hour drive to Kathmandu. The path we follow traces the ridge, gradually descending to Melamchi Pul Bazar, with an impressive drop of 1730 meters. Along the trail, we encounter numerous chortens in the settlements of Nigale, Gyalsha, and Raithani Gyang. Descending further, we traverse through chir pine forests until we reach Kakani, the final Sherpa village. Here, we transition into the lowlands, which Brahmans and Chhetris predominantly inhabit. Departing Kakani, we descend steeply to reach the charming town of Dubhachaur, nestled in a saddle at 1610 meters. Continuing our descent along the ridge, we eventually arrive at a sizable suspension bridge that spans the Indravati River, guiding us into Melamchi Pul Bazar (880 m), then we drive back to Kathmandu via the Banepa and Dhulikhel highways. overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.
