Rara Lake, often referred to as Mahendra Lake, is the biggest freshwater lake in the Nepalese Himalayas. In the Jumla District of the Karnali Province, it is the defining quality of Rara National Park. The 106 sq. km size of Rara National Park is home to Rara lake. The lake's variety of Snowtrout fish is well known too. Rara lake not only carries defining the beauty of turquoise color water but also carries the holy beliefs of the people.
The lake is best visited during the months of March and May. The lake has a brilliant blue hue, the sky is bright, and the rhododendrons are flowering everywhere at this time of year, decorating the mountain pathways with color. The tower, located above the lake which is a two-hour climb away, offers a breathtaking glimpse of the water. The calm oval-shaped lake is surrounded by a wide range of flora and fauna. Rara Lake is a pristine, secret lake in western Nepal that has an area of 10.8 square kilometers and is located at a height of 2990 meters.
