About Annapurna Region
Annapurna region trekking is popular as the second most rewarding tourist destination and the second most preferred trekking trail in Nepal after Everest region trekking. Trekking in the Annapurna region is relatively less strenuous than trekking in Everest and other regions. Mt. Annapurna, one of the eight highest mountains in the world standing at 8,091 m (26,538 ft), is the centrepiece of this trek. The fabulous cultural and natural world bestowed by this region is remarkably astonishing. Traditional settlements, diverse ethnic groups with their unique lifestyles, high pastures, abundant flora and fauna, and above all, the breathtaking Himalayan range are the major fascinations of this trek.
Every second, Mount Annapurna seems even more beautiful as it is encircled by awe-inspiring Himalayan ranges including the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre – the famous fish-tail mountain that dominates the skyline above Pokhara. Additionally, this area is home to the Kali Gandaki, the world's deepest gorge, marking the frontier between Mount Dhaulagiri and Mount Annapurna.
The Annapurna Area Conservation Project (ACAP), established in 1986, is a key highlight of this trekking experience. A great variety of plant species and wildlife found in ACAP enrich the trek further.
Annapurna region trekking offers several trails, such as Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Annapurna Circuit (also known as Round Annapurna Trek), Ghorepani – Poonhill Trek, and Jomsom Muktinath Trek, among others. Typically starting and ending in Pokhara, these treks allow you to witness superb views of snow-capped mountains like Mount Fish Tail (6993m), Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna II, Annapurna South, Himchuli, Baraha Shikhar, Singu Chuli, Gagapurna, and Tent Peak as the sun rises and sets.
Popular hubs along the Annapurna Trekking Trail include Jomsom, Manang, Lho Manthang, Bhujung, Lwang, Sikles, Ghandruk, Muktinath, and more.
